Do we still go diving if it’s raining in Phuket?

diving raining Phuket

This is a really common question we get from our guests and the answer is of course we do!

In fact some of the best conditions can be beneath the surface whilst it’s raining above and there is a sense of exhilaration when you look up from under the water to see the raindrops hitting the Sea.. it’s incredibly beautiful.

As we are preparing for the biggest celebration of the Thai New Year, Songkran – the celebration with water on the 13 April, it’s the perfect time to visit, participate in this amazing and fun festival and enjoy scuba diving.

Favourite marine life of the Andaman Sea blog

Phuket is a 365 diving destination, yes there is a low and a high season but that’s not to say the low season means low on marine life, quite the contrary.. the waters are less busy, the marine life are in abundance and it’s the best time to see the big stuff if they’re coming out to play.. If it’s raining does it really matter? You’re going to get wet anyway so we recommend you embrace the day, relish in the quieter waters and enjoy some amazing diving!

Safety is our number one priority and we work closely with the marine authorities to ensure that conditions are safe for the boats to go out – rain doesn’t stop the boats going out, the Sea conditions and wave heights stop the boats going out and are closely monitored during the monsoon seasons.

As we are sheltered by a number of Islands around Phuket we are one of a few places that you really can dive 365 days a years and if you haven’t dived when it’s been raining then try it, look up and absorb the beauty.. I personally find it pretty breath-taking.

So if you’re wondering where your next dive holiday is going to be then why not try Phuket in the low season – flight prices drop, accommodation prices go down (here’s some of our recommended places to stay), some Dive Centres offer reduced rates (ahem), everywhere is quieter and it doesn’t rain every single day!  The biggest rainfall months are September and October but again it can be lashing down one minute and glorious sunshine the next..

Happy Diving in the sun and in the rain 🙂
